To be specific, the stars in your mini profile rise from your posting on the forum! Also, your posting rank will change from # of posts in steps like 10, 50, 100, 250, ... to highest lvl!  So, no need for staying loged all day to earn them!  As for a karma, everybody can Exalt or Smite someone to rise or lower his value! U can Exalt  (karma = +1) or Smite  (karma = -1) every one hour.
